The Core Renovation: Your Questions, Answered

The Core Renovation: Your Questions, Answered

We renovated the icons you already love, and we know you have questions. (A lot of them. We counted.) So we made one page that answers them all, straight, no spin.

This is the Core Renovation: a ground-up relaunch of our best-selling Core franchise, re-engineered based on eight years of your feedback. Below, the questions we're hearing most, answered one at a time. Jump to what you need:

The Renovation Itself

What is the Core Renovation?

The Core Renovation is a ground-up relaunch of Béis's best-selling Core franchise, not a new product line. It's 54 new and recolored SKUs across five colorways: the icons that built the brand, re-engineered from your direct feedback on the originals. The gear you already love, now lighter, tougher, more secure, better organized, and more personal.

Why did Béis change its best-selling products?

Because you asked, for eight years. We heard the complaints (weight, straps, zippers, security), and instead of pretending they weren't real, we fixed them one by one. This is a renovation, not a reinvention. We didn't blow up what worked; we listened, then re-engineered the parts you told us to.

Which products were renovated?

The full Core lineup got the treatment:

  • The Weekender ($118) and Mini Weekender ($108)
  • The Travel Backpack ($108)
  • The Core Rollers ($248 to $368)
  • The Dopp Kit ($68)
  • The Packing Cubes ($16–$24 each)
  • The Luggage Covers ($48 / $54 / $58)
  • The Passport & Luggage Tag Set

All in Black, Maple, Beige, Atlas Pink, plus Olive.

What changed on the Weekender?

Almost everything you complained about. Here's the complaint-to-fix list, straight:

  • The rigid frame and PU are gone, because they added weight and ate packable space.
  • The straps are now sewn into the base with added padding and more durable material, to address the ripping and digging-in complaints customers had with the originals.
  • Upgraded #8 zippers replace the old ones that broke.
  • A soft, wide opening with a side-snap connection makes packing easier.
  • Roll-back bottom-compartment access: the bottom wall unzips and rolls away to open up one large compartment.
  • Delayed-theft zipper pullers and clip-together main-compartment zips for security.
  • A modernized, more padded shoulder pad.

What changed on the Mini Weekender?

The Mini got the same renovation logic as its big sibling, scaled down. It carries the upgraded #8 zippers, delayed-theft zipper pullers, the softer wide opening, and the more durable, better-padded straps and shoulder pad. Same overnight-and-a-half bag you know, re-engineered on the same feedback that drove the full-size Weekender.

What changed on the Travel Backpack?

It dropped from 3.86 lbs to 2.56 lbs. That's the headline, and the rest keeps up: flat-lying expandable water-bottle pockets, ergonomically shaped strap padding, a larger front pocket with a locking feature, a dual-zip opening with delayed-theft pullers, a 16" laptop pocket, a trolley pass-through, and a modernized interior. New dimensions are 18.11" × 13.39" × 7.09", with a 20L main compartment and a 4L front pocket.

What changed on the Core Rollers?

The shell stays 100% virgin polycarbonate, and dimensions and capacity are unchanged from the current Core Roller. What's new:

  • TSA locks with gap-less zipper pullers
  • A hidden AirTag pocket inside the hanging pocket
  • A new logo bag hook that holds up to 50 lbs and doubles as a phone or tablet stand
  • 60mm Hinomoto 360° wheels
  • A butterfly opening
  • Four-point wide compression straps
  • A dirty-clothes and shoes pouch set
  • 2" expansion with an indicator puller
  • A spot-cleanable 75D brushed lining

Did the Dopp Kit and Packing Cubes change too?

Barely, and on purpose. Both got very little negative feedback, so the designs stay and only the materials and aesthetics update. The Dopp Kit moves to recycled poly canvas with TPU and gains a water-resistant clear pouch and a coated bottom. The Packing Cubes become a four-size system (4.5L / 6.5L / 11L / 23L) with handles, mesh tops, and label windows, sized to nest inside the Core bags and rollers. Materials & Durability

What are the new bags made of?

The softgoods use recycled poly canvas with a water-resistant TPU coating and coated, water-resistant bottom panels. The rollers are 100% virgin polycarbonate. Luggage covers are a 4-way stretch poly spandex, and the tags and passport set are Saffiano PU. (The old versions used core poly canvas and buffalo PU.)

Why virgin polycarbonate instead of recycled?

Virgin polycarbonate guarantees higher durability, and for hardside luggage we chose durability over the recycled-materials talking point. A roller has to survive years of baggage carousels, and that's not the place to compromise. Our sustainability effort lives in the softgoods, which use recycled poly canvas. We'd rather make one honest trade-off than a claim that wouldn't be honest.

Are the zippers actually better this time?

Yes. We upgraded to #8 zippers across the line, addressing the top reported failure point on the originals. The rollers add water-resistant zipper tape and gap-less pullers on top of that. Zippers were the single most common complaint, so they got the single most direct fix.

How do I clean the new materials?

The recycled poly canvas with TPU is water-resistant, with coated bottom panels, and the roller lining is designed to be spot-cleaned.

Size, Fit & Compliance

Are the new bags still carry-on compliant?

The renovated bags come in at confirmed dimensions of about 15.75" × 17.9" × 9.8" for the Weekender, 16.14" × 15.75" × 7.87" for the Mini Weekender, and 18.11" × 13.39" × 7.09" for the Travel Backpack. Carry-on limits vary by airline, so always check your specific airline's policy before you fly.

Did the bags get smaller?

Slightly, yes, and we'd rather tell you than have you find out. The Weekender's on-paper volume dropped, largely because removing the rigid frame changed its geometry, and that frame was itself one of the top complaints: it ate packable space and added weight. Less printed volume, more usable space, and a bag you can actually pack all the way through.

Can I still use the Mini Weekender as a personal item?

Yes. At a confirmed 16.14" × 15.75" × 7.87", the renovated Mini Weekender is built to slide under the seat in front of you as a personal item on most major U.S. airlines. Personal-item size limits vary by airline, so check yours before you fly, and our carry-on and personal-item size guides break down the per-airline detail.

Can I still use the Travel Backpack as a personal item?

Yes. The renovated Travel Backpack measures 18.11" × 13.39" × 7.09", sized to work as a personal item that fits under the seat on most major U.S. airlines. Because limits differ by carrier, confirm your airline's personal-item dimensions before you go.

Did the Travel Backpack's capacity change?

The renovated Travel Backpack holds 28L total: a 20L main compartment plus a 4L front pocket. It also got lighter, dropping from 3.86 lbs to 2.56 lbs, so you're carrying less bag for what you pack.

Are all the Rollers the same size as before?

Yes. The Core Rollers keep the same dimensions and capacity as the current Core Roller; the shell is still 100% virgin polycarbonate. The renovation went into the hardware and interior (TSA locks, 60mm Hinomoto wheels, the bag hook, butterfly opening, and more), not the outer size, so if a roller size fit your travel before, it still does.

For OG Owners

Is my OG bag being discontinued?

Some original products and colors are being retired, and a small set of SKUs stays in stock until they sell through. If you want to check the status of a specific OG bag or color, reach out to our support team and they'll tell you exactly where it stands.

Will the old colorways come back?

The palette was refreshed, not replaced. Black, Maple, Beige, Atlas Pink, and Olive all continue, with Atlas, Olive, and Beige deliberately re-toned to run warmer and less purple. If you're wondering whether a specific original tone will return, our support team can tell you what's planned for that color.

I just bought an OG bag. Can I return or exchange it for the renovated version?

Our standard returns policy applies. Eligible OG purchases can be returned within 45 days if they're unused, undamaged, with original tags and packaging, and were purchased directly from BÉIS. Exchanges are limited to the same product in a different color, subject to availability, and refund returns carry a $10 handling fee (personalized items are final sale). To get the renovated version, return your OG bag and place a new order for the renovated one.

Does my OG roller's warranty change?

Our Limited Lifetime Luggage Warranty covers our listed polycarbonate luggage, including the Carry-On Roller, Small Carry-On Roller, Medium Check-In Roller, and Large Check-In Roller, and that coverage is unchanged. If your OG roller is one of those, it stays covered under the same terms.

Security Features

What are the new security features?

Security got a real pass across the whole line:

  • Delayed-theft zipper pullers across every bag. They slow down an opportunistic zip-open, so no one's getting into your bag with one quick tug in a crowd.
  • A lockable front pocket on the Travel Backpack.
  • TSA locks with gap-less pullers on the Rollers.
  • Clip-together main-compartment zips on the Weekender.
  • A hidden AirTag pocket in the Rollers, tucked inside the hanging pocket. It's discreet by design, so we'll just tell you where it is rather than making you hunt.

Personalization, Pricing & Warranty

When does embroidery launch, on which products, and what does it cost?

You'll be able to add 0.5" embroidery to the Weekender, Mini Weekender, Travel Backpack, and Dopp Kit, in all colorways, with multiple fonts and thread colors (threads #1854, #1795, #1659, and #1573), placed center top or front. It launches in July 2026.

What's the warranty on renovated rollers?

The renovated polycarbonate rollers are covered by our Limited Lifetime Luggage Warranty, the same coverage that applies to our listed polycarbonate luggage, including the Carry-On Roller, Small Carry-On Roller, Medium Check-In Roller, and Large Check-In Roller.

That's the Core Renovation, question by question. This page is a living one: about two weeks after launch we'll fold in the real questions you're asking us in support and the comments. Ready to see the icons for yourself? Shop the renovated Core starting July 15.
