Best Carry On Luggage & Rolling Suitcase

Overpacking isn’t a flaw, it’s a personality trait—and BÉIS carry-on luggage is built for people who know that about themselves. Whether you’re jetting off for a quick weekend or managing a mid-week meeting across the country, there’s a size here for it. This collection holds The Carry-On Roller (49 L, expands to 61 L), The Small Carry-On Roller (31 L), The Hybrid Carry-On Roller (35 L, expands to 41 L), and The Pro Rolling Backpack (34 L), plus Disney Mickey Mouse Red editions of the first two. Shopping for a smaller traveler? kids luggage lives in its own collection—because travel doesn’t skip a generation.

Every bag on this page has met a baggage carousel it didn’t like. Most of this collection is hard shell for exactly that reason: The Carry-On Roller, The Small Carry-On Roller and The Hybrid Carry-On Roller are all built on a polycarbonate shell that can handle the chaos of TSA lines, baggage claim, and wherever your journey takes you. The Hybrid adds reinforced aluminum corner protectors and double-coated zipper bumpers to resist scuffs over its 100% virgin polycarbonate shell—because corners are where the dings happen.

One bag here breaks the hard-shell rule on purpose. Enter: The Pro Rolling Backpack. It’s 100% virgin nylon—ballistic nylon that resists water, daily wear, and abrasion—so it rolls when you want it to and wears like a backpack when you need it to (stairs, crowds, the terminal with one working elevator). It opens flat like a clamshell for packing, its expandable elastic water bottle pocket doubles as multi-use storage, and an interior key leash keeps your keys where you left them. Want the rest of the hard shell luggage? It’s all in one place.

What Size Carry-On Do You Need?

Pick the wrong size and you’re gate-checking; pick the right one and you sail past the sizer like you planned it. We’ve got a sizing chart for the full breakdown, but here’s the quick version—and check your own airline’s limits before you fly, because every carrier writes its own rules:

  • The Carry-On Roller — 49 L, expands to 61 L, 7.81 lbs, 15.70" L × 22.83" H × 10" D, $268. Expandable up to 2", with TSA-approved locks, 360° Hinomoto wheels, a cushioned silicone trolley handle and a built-in weight indicator. Also in Disney Mickey Mouse Red, $278.
  • The Small Carry-On Roller — 31 L, 7.15 lbs, 13.50" L × 21.50" H × 8.07" D, $248. Sized to fit most domestic and international carry-on sizing limits. TSA locks, a weight indicator, Hinomoto 360° wheels and wider compression straps. Also in Disney Mickey Mouse Red, $258.
  • The Hybrid Carry-On Roller — 35 L, expands to 41 L, 8.39 lbs, 22" H x 14" L x 9" D, $298. Those are the carry-on dimensions our sizing chart lists for American, Delta, United and JetBlue. TSA-approved lock with gap-free tapered zippers, 55mm Hinomoto suspension wheels, and the BÉIS Coupling System (patent pending) that links Hybrid rollers into one rolling unit and doubles as a lifting handle.
  • The Pro Rolling Backpack — 34 L, 6.48 lbs, 20.87 in L x 12.99 in H x 8.66 in D, $338. The lightest thing on wheels here. Ballistic nylon instead of a hard shell, a padded easy-access laptop pocket for devices up to 17", a clamshell opening that lies flat, two smooth-rolling wheels, stowable padded backpack straps and security zippers.
  • The Carry-On Luggage Cover — 0.66 lbs, 19.5" H x 9.8" W x 14.5" L, $58. A machine-washable spandex-and-polyester cover cut to fit your Carry-On Roller.

Whatever you choose, our carry-ons perform their best with BÉIS packing cubes, toiletry bags, and luggage covers—because the real secret to effortless travel is in the details.

Top Features to Look for in our Carry-Ons

We don’t believe in “just getting there.” We believe in making the journey smoother, smarter, and way more stylish. Each of our carry-ons comes packed with features that make a difference mid-transit:

  • Shell — Polycarbonate hard shell on The Carry-On Roller, The Small Carry-On Roller and The Hybrid Carry-On Roller; 100% virgin nylon on The Pro Rolling Backpack
  • Wheels — 360° Hinomoto wheels on the three hard-shell rollers (55mm suspension wheels on The Hybrid); two smooth-rolling wheels on The Pro Rolling Backpack
  • Weight indicator — Built in on The Carry-On Roller and The Small Carry-On Roller. On The Carry-On Roller it sits on the carry handle, needs no batteries, and turns red at 50 lbs
  • TSA-approved locks — On The Carry-On Roller, The Small Carry-On Roller and The Hybrid Carry-On Roller, all with gap-free tapered zippers. The preset combination is 0-0-0 and you can reset it yourself
  • Expandable space — Up to 2" on The Carry-On Roller (49 L to 61 L) and The Hybrid Carry-On Roller (35 L to 41 L)
  • Cushioned trolley handles — On all four rolling models
  • Compression straps — On all four: wider straps on The Carry-On Roller and The Small Carry-On Roller, 4-point straps on The Hybrid Carry-On Roller
  • Laptop pocket — One bag only, The Pro Rolling Backpack: padded, easy-access, sized for devices up to 17", with a side cable pass-through pocket
  • Bags for shoes, laundry or damp things — Included with The Hybrid Carry-On Roller (a pouch set) and The Pro Rolling Backpack (dirt bags)
  • Opens flat — A clamshell opening on The Pro Rolling Backpack and a butterfly opening on The Hybrid Carry-On Roller, so both lie open while you pack

Which Carry-Ons Expand, and by How Much?

You packed light. Then you found the market, the bookshop and a friend who insists you take the good olive oil home. It happens to us too—which is why two of the designs here expand, and both do it by up to 2".

  • The Carry-On Roller — 49 L closed, 61 L expanded, at 7.81 lbs. The Disney Mickey Mouse Red edition expands the same way.
  • The Hybrid Carry-On Roller — 35 L closed, 41 L expanded, at 8.39 lbs.

The Small Carry-On Roller (31 L) and The Pro Rolling Backpack (34 L) are fixed capacity—they stay exactly the size you bought them. One honest note before you get excited: an expanded bag is bigger than its listed dimensions, so we recommend that you adhere to airline guidelines and check with your airline before you unzip that extra 2" at the gate.

How to Pack Your Carry-On like a Pro

Start with the base: a clean, empty case. Then layer in packing cubes to separate your outfits by type or day (bonus: they keep things wrinkle-free). Use the compression straps to flatten bulk—wider straps on The Carry-On Roller and The Small Carry-On Roller, 4-point straps on The Hybrid Carry-On Roller. Shoes and damp things go in the pouch set included with The Hybrid or the dirt bags included with The Pro Rolling Backpack; with any other model, a BÉIS toiletry bag or pouch does the same job. And save the expansion for the trip home: The Carry-On Roller goes from 49 L to 61 L, The Hybrid from 35 L to 41 L.

Because you will buy things.

💡 Pro tip: Find out your bag is overweight at home, not at the check-in counter. The Carry-On Roller and The Small Carry-On Roller both have a built-in weight indicator; on The Carry-On Roller the window sits on the carry handle, needs no batteries, and turns red at 50 lbs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does BÉIS luggage have a TSA lock?

Yes—three of the four carry-on models here have one. The Carry-On Roller, The Small Carry-On Roller and The Hybrid Carry-On Roller all have TSA-approved locks with gap-free tapered zippers. The preset combination is 0-0-0, which is less a combination than a suggestion, so change it: turn the dials to the current opening combination, press down the reset button with a pen or other small tool, turn the dial to your desired combination, then release the reset button. The full steps are in our TSA lock instructions. The Pro Rolling Backpack is the one exception: it uses BÉIS security clipping zipper pullers rather than a combination lock.

Which BÉIS carry-on has expandable space?

The Carry-On Roller and The Hybrid Carry-On Roller. The Carry-On Roller expands up to 2", taking it from 49 L to 61 L at 7.81 lbs. The Hybrid Carry-On Roller also expands up to 2", from 35 L to 41 L at 8.39 lbs. The Small Carry-On Roller (31 L) and The Pro Rolling Backpack (34 L) do not expand. (Yes, that extra 2" is where the souvenirs go.) Expanded is bigger than the dimensions on the label, so check your airline’s carry-on limits before you use it.

Does any BÉIS carry-on suitcase have a shoe compartment?

No—none of the rolling carry-ons in this collection has a built-in shoe compartment. Two of them come with bags for the job instead: The Hybrid Carry-On Roller includes a pouch set for shoes, laundry, or damp items, and The Pro Rolling Backpack comes with dirt bags. The Hybrid’s interior also has U-zip compartments with two mesh pockets and a hanging zip pocket. We’d rather tell you that than call a pouch a compartment—your clean clothes have strong opinions about your shoes.

Which BÉIS carry-on fits a laptop?

The Pro Rolling Backpack. It is the only bag in this collection with a laptop pocket: padded, easy-access, and sized for devices up to 17", with a side cable pass-through pocket for charging on the go. It weighs 6.48 lbs and holds 34 L. The Hybrid Carry-On Roller’s interior has two mesh pockets and a hanging zip pocket, but no dedicated laptop sleeve—and neither do the other rollers.

Is BÉIS carry-on luggage covered by a warranty?

Yes, though not for every model here. The BÉIS Limited Lifetime Luggage Warranty names The Carry-On Roller and The Small Carry-On Roller in the luggage it covers, and The Pro Rolling Backpack’s product page says the warranty is included with it too. It covers cracks or breaks in the shell, wheels and telescoping handles that break off or are otherwise no longer usable, and zippers that break or can no longer open and close. “Lifetime” means the reasonable lifespan of the materials, not the lifetime of the owner, and weight indicator inaccuracies are not covered more than 30 days after purchase. The Hybrid Carry-On Roller is not named on the warranty page, so we won’t promise it here.
