You thought we didn't know what the internet says about our Weekender? Oh, we know. We've read every comment, screenshotted every "why do the straps do that" review, and yes, we clocked the memes. Here's the part you might not know: that same bag was our best seller for eight strong years.
So we did the least glamorous, most necessary thing a brand can do. We listened, we took notes, and we rebuilt our icons from the inside out.
Enter: the Core Renovation.
WHY NOW?
Because eight years is a long time to grow up, and both of us did. You've traveled more, packed smarter, and gotten (rightfully) pickier. We've learned what holds up at baggage claim and what doesn't.
This isn't a fresh coat of paint on a new idea. It's a reintroduction of the bags that built us: an ode to the past and a strong signal for everything that's coming next. We're taking this moment to close the gap between loving Béis and actually feeling confident hitting "add to cart."
HOW DID WE ACTUALLY LISTEN?
The reviews, the comments, the DMs. All of it became the design brief. Not the flattering parts, the honest parts. When you tell us the same thing over and over, we stop calling it feedback and start calling it a to-do list.
Here's what you told us, unfiltered, and what we did about it:
- "It's too heavy." We removed the rigid frame and the PU.
- "The straps rip and dig in." We sewed the straps into the base, added padding, and switched to more durable material.
- "The zippers break." We upgraded the Weekender and Mini Weekender to #8 zippers.
- "The frame wastes space." Gone. Now it's a soft, wide opening with a side-snap connection.
- "I can't get into the bottom compartment." We added a roll-back bottom wall that unzips and turns the whole bag into one big compartment.
- "There's no security feature." Now there's a delayed-theft zipper puller and clip-together main-compartment zips.
THE WEEKENDER: OUR MOST-LOVED (AND MOST-ROASTED) BAG
If any bag earned this renovation, it's this one. Eight years of adoration and, let's be honest, hate. So we put it on the table and fixed it, complaint by complaint.
Here's the before-and-after, no spin:
| OG Weekender | Renovated Weekender | |
|---|---|---|
| Materials | Core poly canvas / buffalo PU | Recycled poly canvas / TPU coating |
| Dimensions | 16" H x 19" W x 10" D | ~15.75" H x 17.9" W x 9.8" D |
The renovated Weekender also packs a padded laptop pocket that fits up to 16" with a magnetic closure, a removable crossbody strap on D-rings, the trolley pass-through you already love, a large front zipper pocket with an iPhone-sized slip pocket, a water-bottle pocket, and a coated, water-resistant bottom. It's the only bag you need to pack for your upcoming getaway.
WHAT ELSE GOT THE RENO TREATMENT?
The four things you asked for, lighter, stronger, more secure, better organized, carry across the whole family. A few highlights worth calling out:
THE TRAVEL BACKPACK (THE CLEAREST WEIGHT WIN)
The OG backpack ran 3.86 lbs. The renovated one comes in at 2.56 lbs, a 1.3 lb drop. It measures 18.11" x 13.39" x 7.09" with 28L total capacity. You also get water-bottle pockets that lie flat and expand for use, more ergonomic strap padding, a larger front pocket with a locking feature, a dual-zip opening with delayed-theft pullers, a trolley pass-through, a 16" laptop pocket, and interior compression straps.

THE CORE ROLLERS (STILL THE HERO)
The Rollers keep the shape and capacity you know, with a 100% virgin polycarbonate shell (more on that choice below). Then we loaded them up: 60mm Hinomoto 360° wheels, TSA locks with new gap-less zipper pullers, 2" expansion with an indicator puller that shows which zipper expands, and a new logo bag hook that holds up to 50 lbs and doubles as a stationary phone or tablet stand.
Inside: a butterfly opening, a spot-cleanable 75D brushed polyester lining, four-point wide compression straps, a zip hanging pocket with a hidden AirTag pocket tucked inside, and a separate pouch set for dirty clothes, shoes, and damp items.
THE DOPP KIT & PACKING CUBES (WHAT WE DIDN'T FIX)
Here's the honest part. You barely complained about these. You loved them. So we didn't touch what worked. The Dopp Kit gets the new materials, a water-resistant clear pouch, and a coated bottom, nothing more. The Packing Cubes became a 4-size system (4.5L / 6.5L / 11L / 23L) sized to nest inside the Core bags, with handles, mesh tops, and label windows.
That restraint is kind of the whole point. We changed things because you asked, not because we wanted something new to sell.
RENOVATION, NOT REINVENTION
We kept the silhouettes you can spot across a terminal. We kept the price ladder. And we kept the colors, just re-toned, not replaced. Atlas Pink, Olive, and Beige got warmer, less purple undertones so the palette reads current while staying unmistakably Béis. Canvas styles run all five colors: Jet Black, Maple, Beige, Atlas Pink, and Olive.
Your OG bag isn't obsolete. It's the reason this line exists.
WHY VIRGIN POLYCARBONATE? (AN HONEST ANSWER)
Our softgoods moved to recycled poly canvas with a TPU coating, and we're proud of that. But the hardside Rollers use 100% virgin polycarbonate, and we want to be upfront about why.
Recycled hardside would've been an easy marketing line. Virgin polycarbonate is simply more durable, and durability is the entire promise of a bag you'll drag through airports for years. We chose the version that lasts over the version that reads better on a spec sheet.
WHAT'S NEXT: MAKE IT YOURS
The July wave brings personalization. We've added personalization with 0.5" embroidery across all applicable styles and every colorway, including the Weekender, Mini Weekender, Travel Backpack, and Dopp Kit. Multiple fonts, multiple thread colors, standard placement center top or front.
Consider it an open invitation. You helped shape these bags. Now you get to sign them.
QUICK QUESTIONS, QUICK ANSWERS
- What changed on the Weekender? We removed the rigid frame and PU, sewed the straps into the base with added padding, upgraded to #8 zippers, improved bottom-compartment access with a roll-back bottom wall that unzips and rolls away so the bag opens into one large compartment, and built in delayed-theft security pullers.
- Is it actually lighter? The Weekender lost the rigid frame and PU. The Travel Backpack is the clearest proof: 2.56 lbs, down from 3.86 lbs.
- Are the zippers really better? Yes. We moved to #8 zippers on the bags that had zipper complaints, like the Weekender and Mini Weekender.
- What security features were added? Delayed-theft zipper pullers, lockable front pockets, TSA locks on the Rollers, and a hidden AirTag pocket.
- Will the OG colors still exist? They're re-toned, not gone. Same recognizable palette, warmer undertones.
- When does personalization arrive? In the July wave, with embroidery available in every colorway.
Pro tip: When your bag is airline-ready, use the weight-limit indicator on the Roller's side handle to confirm you're under before you ever reach the gate. And always check your specific airline's size and weight rules, since every carrier sets its own.
THE BOTTOM LINE
We listened, and we rebuilt our icons. Lighter. Stronger. More secure. Better organized. Straps that won't dig in, zippers that won't quit, and the same bags you fell for, minus the stuff you didn't.
The Core you love, renovated. We wouldn't relaunch it if we didn't stand behind every inch.
